Story Times

Story times at the library are a great way to foster a love of reading in your child. We encourage parents and caregivers to remain active participants during story time. You are your child's first and most important teacher, so help them strengthen their literacy and language skills by showing them how much fun reading, singing, and playing together can be! We aim to accomplish this during story time through singing and dancing, listening to books, practicing ASL words and phrases, coloring pages, and crafts.

*If you are unsure whether or not your 3-year-old should be in Toddler or Preschool Story Time, we welcome parents and caregivers to attend both in order to gauge the child's interest and behavior.

Reading to Rover

Is your child a struggling or reluctant reader? Whether your child has special needs or simply wants the experience of reading to a canine companion, Reading to Rover is a great way to provide your child with a friendly, non-judgmental audience. Gracie and Bella are trained and certified therapy dogs who visit the library twice a month during the school year. Their human mom, Cindy, also takes them for visits to local hospitals.

Children will get 15 minutes to read with one of the dogs. A selection of books are provided in the room, but children are welcome to bring their own books from home or browse the library for books before their session begins.

Your new favorite place to be is at Teen Night. If you enjoy playing games, making crafts, meeting new people, and banking some volunteer hours, check out Haslet Public Library. You have control over what happens at Teen Night also. Give us your input at our next Teen Night and we will strive to offer that activity in the future. You can also gain volunteer hours just by participating and having fun. Just ask us how and we look forward to meeting you.
