Spring is Coming…So will be our Wildlife

With warmer weather on the way, most of our local wildlife around will be busy preparing nests for their offspring. Animals like squirrels, opossums, and raccoons are known to make our attics and deck areas their own…here are some things to check out this time of year: Inspect around the eaves of your home and around vent covers for any possible damage that would allow the wildlife into your attic. Any signs of digging under sheds or decks could mean rabbits, raccoons, or skunks may be trying to make a home. If you feel our wild friends have “sprung” onto your property due to spring, here is a great solution:

PLEASE call me…I have been in the Animal Control business for seven years now. I have helped folks out with all types of wildlife problems. I have live traps available for a rental fee to handle opossums, skunks, raccoons, armadillos, and bobcats. With rabbits, coyotes, and snakes there are many deterrent methods I can recommend to solve the situation. We must keep in mind the following facts when wildlife affects us:

1. Who was here first?? The animals of course. We need to respect them before we can better understand them.

2. Are we sending out invitations?? Possibly….In many wildlife cases I work, the resident unknowingly “invites” the animals due to leaving out dog or cat foods. Any woodpiles, compost piles, or untidy property that might invite mice will in turn invite foxes, skunks, and snakes. We cannot blame these animals for acting out of instinct.

3. Relocate…do not terminate……I pride myself in being a humane officer. Lets work together to safely capture any nuisance wildlife and relocate them to remote areas were they can “get back to nature.”

Any questions on wildlife issues or the need of a trap, call me at 817-401-1861. Thanks!!........Brian “The Animal Guy”

Animal Control Ordinance Information

Confinement Law: Haslet has a strict confinement law for dogs and cats…please do not allow your pets to roam. Pets at large are subject to being impounded by an Animal Control Officer and fees accessed to an owner. The Officer uses written notice cards and WARNING cards on first time violations. A second or third violation could result in a citation being issued where fines begin at $500.

Please be responsible with your animals. A current rabies tag or ID tag on your pet’s collar will assure you getting your lost pet back.
