MAY 6, 2017 JOINT GENERAL & SPECIAL ELECTION

The City of Haslet canceled the May 6, 2017, general election for the city as no council candidates were opposed. 

Haslet voters will still be a part of the May 6, 2017 election as the Northwest Independent School District proposed bond in the amount of $399 million will be on the ballot as will three Northwest ISD Trustees (Places 5, 6 and 7).

Early Voting for the May 6, 2017 Election will be held at the Haslet Public Library from April 24th through May 2nd.  Follow this link to schedule.  Follow this link to see all Tarrant County Early Voting Locations.


The Haslet Community Center will not be hosting voting on May 6, 2017.

All Haslet voters will vote at Sendera Ranch Elementary School, 1218 Diamond Back Lane on May 6, 2017. Polls are open from 7 am to 7 pm.
 
CITY OF HASLET CANCELS MAY 6, 2017 GENERAL ELECTION
At the March 6, 2017, Regular City Council Meeting, Haslet City Council cancelled the May 6, 2017 General Election by approving Ordinance 007-2017 which includes the Order of Cancellation.   All candidates that filed to be on the ballot for the offices of Mayor, Council Member Place 2 and Council Member Place 4 were unopposed.

At the May 15, 2017, Regular City Council Meeting, the following candidates will be declared elected to office, and issued certification of election:

Office of Mayor: Bob Golden
Council Member Place 2:  Mitch Hill
Council Member Place 4:   Patricia Hilborn




Elections
The City of Haslet contracts with Tarrant County Elections through a joint election contract which enables elections to be administered through the Tarrant County Elections office, and is more cost effective for the City of Haslet. Elections are held every year for alternating two-year mayor and council terms.

To run for office in Haslet (a general law city in Texas), you must, among other requirements:
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be at least 18 years old on the date of the election
  • Have lived in the State of Texas for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the filing date for the election and in Haslet for at least 6 months prior to the filing date for the election

Filing for a Place on the Ballot
To run for city office, you must file an application with the city secretary. The application includes information required by the Texas Election Code and must be filed according to deadlines set by that code. A candidate may either file for a place on the ballot or as a write-in candidate, but an application must be filed in either case.
